Joyce Yale Cole
Joyce Yale Cole, 93, of Roanoke Rapids died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Liberty Commons in Weldon.
Mrs. Cole was a native of Wilkes County, NC, the daughter of the late Zachariah Yale and Etta Mae Hinson Yale. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John T. Cole, two sisters, Nina Yale and Louise Fowler, and two brothers, Raymond Yale and George Yale. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and First United Methodist Women’s Society. Mrs. Cole was the oldest living member of the church.
She was very active in Al-anon. Joyce was retired from the Jewel Shop in downtown Roanoke Rapids.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty Cooke and her husband, L.H., of Southern Shores; two granddaughters, Denise Stone and her husband, Mike, of Southern Shores and Pam Cooke of Richmond, VA; her great-granddaughter, Lisa Cooke of Midlothian, VA; her brother, Jack Yale and his wife, Dot, of Trap Hill, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. C. B. Owens will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
